Student dies by suicide at Belagavi hostel

Belagavi: A 21-year-old college student was found hanging from the ceiling fan at the Post-Matric Girls' Hostel run by the scheduled castes welfare department at Azam Nagar here on Monday.The deceased has been identified as Kaveri Umesh Naik, a resident of Kataballi village in Hukkeri taluk, a final year BSc student. The incident sent shockwaves, especially since the tragic act occurred on her birthday.Three months ago, Kaveri was engaged to marry a police constable, soon. The incident triggered concern and anxiety among students in the hostel.The exact reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained. APMC police station officials rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. Further investigation is underway.
