Poor road conditions leave trucks stranded on NH-306 in Mizoram

The critical condition of National Highway-306 continues to disrupt transportation in Mizoram, particularly along the Sairang-Kawnpui stretch. Hundreds of trucks are stranded due to the road's dilapidated state, exacerbated by discontinued repair works by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation. This negligence has led to accidents and significant delays, with drivers spending days covering short distances.

Aizawl: Poor road conditions persist along the National Highway-306, with hundreds of trucks being stranded in the Sairang-Kawnpui section, the worst stretch along the NH, Mizoram Truck Drivers’ Association president H Laldingliana said on Sunday.Despite previous repairs, this segment has once again fallen into a dilapidated state, posing challenges for transportation, he said.Laldingliana told TOI that a few trucks have turned turtle in recent days, causing damage to the trucks and blocking the road for other vehicles. “The sections where repairs have been undertaken earlier are again in an extreme dilapidated condition due to negligence and discontinuation of the repair works. We are spending 4 to 5 days to reach Kawnpui from Aizawl which is barely 69km,” he said.He said the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation limited contractors discontinued the repair works which they promised to undertake and there has been a lack of pressure from the state govt.As of 8.30am on Sunday, 538 loaded vehicles were released from Kawnpui going towards Aizawl and 81 vehicles crossing Sairang junction from Mualkhang/Khamrang going towards Kolasib/Assam were released. There are still 234 vehicles proceeding towards Assam being stranded at Khamrang section between Aizawl and Kawnpui.
