Caitlin Clark’s season has ended early due to injury, but that hasn’t stopped her from being courtside and vocal about her team. Unfortunately, Sunday turned into a rough day for the Indiana Fever star as she endured disappointment twice. First, watching her teammates fall in the WNBA playoffs, and later seeing her favorite NFL squad, the Kansas City Chiefs, drop another close game.
Caitlin Clark watches Indiana Fever drop playoff opener
Caitlin Clark was in the stands at Gateway Center Arena as the Fever opened their first-round playoff series against the Atlanta Dream. Indiana fought hard, but a fourth-quarter collapse sealed an 80-68 defeat. Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 27 points, yet it wasn’t enough to offset the absence of Clark and several other injured teammates.
The Fever now trail 0-1 in the best-of-three series and face elimination when the action shifts back to Indianapolis for Game 2. It will be the franchise’s first home playoff game since 2016, but Indiana will be fighting to simply extend their season.
Clark, sidelined with a groin injury since mid-July, could only watch. Her absence has been a major blow to the Fever’s offense and leadership. Earlier this month, she announced her season was officially over, posting: “I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season.
I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling. I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty.”
Caitlin Clark sees Chiefs lose heartbreaker after Fever’s defeat
If the Fever’s loss wasn’t painful enough, Clark’s NFL Sunday ended the same way. Before tipoff, she shared her excitement online, writing: “Go Fever , Go Chiefs!!! let’s have a day❤️.” After Indiana’s defeat, she turned her attention to Kansas City’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Clark kept the energy high on X, posting during the game: “Feeling some Chiefs magic to finish the game here come on!!!” For a moment, it looked possible. Patrick Mahomes engineered a late touchdown drive to close the gap, but the Chiefs ultimately fell 20-17, dropping to 0-2.
For Clark, it was another day defined by frustration. As she continues recovery from multiple setbacks in just her second WNBA season, she’ll be cheering from the sidelines while hoping her Fever can stave off elimination on Tuesday night.
