Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Mizoram’s first railway line — the 51.38 km Bairabi–Sairang railway line — and flagged off the state’s first Rajdhani Express connecting Aizawl to Delhi. Launched from Lengpui Airport, the project also includes new train services to Guwahati and Kolkata. The railway line, completed after two decades, features 48 tunnels, 55 major bridges, and a 104-metre-high bridge. It connects Bairabi, near the Assam–Mizoram border, to Sairang, just outside Aizawl, linking the capital to India’s national rail network for the first time. Aizawl becomes the fourth northeastern capital with rail connectivity, marking a milestone in boosting regional development, market access, and ease of travel for the people of Mizoram.
