A six-pack may turn heads, but in 2026, it is a confirmed holiday booking that truly wins hearts. New research by Booking.com shows that travel has become one of the strongest expressions of romance in India. As Valentineâs Day nears, grand dinners and expensive gifts are giving way to surprise getaways, with 86 per cent of Indian travellers saying they find it attractive when a partner plans and books a complete trip.
The findings highlight a clear shift. While 76 per cent of Indian women believe men should take charge of planning holidays, 8 per cent say they have never had a partner fully organise a romantic escape. This year, 91 per cent of women want their partners to show more initiative, starting with the itinerary.
Thoughtfulness now matters more than physical appearance. About 92 per cent of women find it appealing when a partner handles planning and booking, and 82 per cent would prefer someone who creates meaningful experiences over someone with just a good physique. In fact, 99 per cent say they would likely show extra affection if surprised with a booked holiday.
The emotional impact is strong. When a partner takes care of travel plans, 74 per cent say they feel loved, 72 per cent feel excited and 51 per cent feel grateful.
Yet barriers remain, from not knowing where to begin to worrying about getting the details wrong.
