Shillong: The Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF) has written to the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA) on the need for “collective dialogue on tourism regulations” in the state.The forum expressed concern over the “recent unilateral decision” of the Association to stage protest on Sept 16, demanding restriction or ban on tourist vehicles from outside from plying in rural tourism destinations in Meghalaya.The MTDF underscored that actions such as protests, restrictions, or unilateral regulations be avoided, as they risk undermining the collective progress made in the tourism sector in the state.Stating that taxis and local transport were the “lifelines of tourism”, the MTDF maintained that such measures set an “undesirable precedent and may inadvertently hamper the growth of tourism” in Meghalaya.
