Daylight murder in Gwalior: Estranged husband shoots woman dead; cops fire tear gas to nab accused

BHOPAL: In a shocking daylight incident a 28-year-old woman was shot dead outside Roop Singh Stadium in Gwalior by her estranged husband on Friday afternoon. The man was captured later. According to eyewitnesses, Arvind Parihar, a local contractor, intercepted his wife Nandini in the bustling stadium area, pulled out a pistol, and fired four to five rounds into her face at point-blank range. As Nandini collapsed on the road, Arvind stayed beside her body, pistol in hand, while stunned bystanders kept their distance.Police teams from University police station rushed to the scene. "He had a loaded weapon in his hand-he could have killed a civilian, a policeman, or himself," Gwalior SP Dharamveer Yadav told TOI. "Police lobbed a tear-gas shell and overpowered him. The team did a commendable job." Locals thrashed Arvind before officers took him away. Nandini was rushed to JAH Hospital but succumbed to her injuries during treatment. SP Yadav confirmed that the weapon was seized and a murder case registered.Investigators and family members revealed that Arvind and Nandini had a love marriage at an Arya Samaj temple, but their relationship soured. On Sept 9, Nandini approached the SP's office alleging that Arvind deceived her-he was already married with children when he wed her-and had been threatening her for months. She previously filed complaints that in Nov 2024, Arvind and his friend Pooja Parihar assaulted her. A police officer said the couple's volatile history included brief reconciliations: "The accused was already married before he married Nandini. They had disputes earlier, and she implicated him in several cases. He was released from jail in Jan and they compromised to live together again. Recently they fought again after she allegedly showed interest in another person," the officer said. The victim had come out of jail in 2022 in connection with the murder of her third husband.
