Landslides cut off NH-29 in Chumoukedima

Landslides triggered by continuous heavy rainfall have completely blocked the NH-29 Dimapur-Kohima road in the Chumoukedima district. The affected stretch lies between Chathe, Paglapahar, and New Chumoukedima, halting all vehicular traffic. Authorities have closed the road from Chathe bridge to New Chumoukedima bridge until restoration work is finished.

Dimapur: The NH-29 (Dimapur-Kohima road) in Chumoukedima district has been completely cut off by landslides at multiple locations along the Chathe-Paglapahar-New Chumoukedima stretch of the highway following incessant rain in the past few days.This has brought the vehicular movement to a halt.The Dimapur police commissionerate, in an advisory, on Sunday said the movement of vehicles from Chathe bridge to New Chumoukedima bridge has been closed till restoration work on the road is completed.It advised the travellers and transporters to take alternate routes from Dimapur to Kohima and vice versa.Light motor vehicles have been asked to use Pimla-Mhainamtsi-Jharnapani-Medziphema route from 6am to 6pm.For heavy motor vehicles (up to six wheelers) carrying essential goods, movement will be allowed from Pimla-Mhainamtsi-Jharnapani-Medziphema between 6pm and 12 midnight, and in the reverse direction from 12 midnight to 6am from Monday.The Niuland-Ghotovi-Zhadima route will remain open for light motor vehicles, the advisory said.It urged travellers and transporters to cooperate and follow the prescribed routes and timings to ensure smooth and uninterrupted vehicular movement.
