Jamshedpur: The Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) has taken fresh initiatives to improve the cleanliness in the town ahead of the Durga Puja festival.
According to MNAC officials, a toll-free number (1800 88 99 518) and a mobile number (9942997831) have been issued for the public to approach the civic body for municipal-related grievances.
Apart from the complaints related to waste management, such as door-to-door garbage collection, people are free to take up any other issue which is related to the violation of the municipal act guidelines, like discarding building materials on the street, encroachments and illegal construction, the assistant municipal commissioner of MNAC, Aqib Javed, said.
“We have identified some residential areas where garbage collection is irregular. People can call on the numbers for help. After the call, a cleaning supervisor concerned will immediately receive a direction to deploy cleaning workers for collecting garbage from door-to-door on the tricycle issued,” Javed said.
He also said, “If we also receive complaints over the phone about drains overflowing due to clogging or municipal waste lying unattended at a public place, then our response team will get into action and ensure that the cleaning worker reaches the spot at the shortest possible time.”
Javed further said enforcement teams would be on the streets to catch people who are violating the municipal guidelines and penalise them in accordance with the provisions of the Jharkhand Municipality Act 2011.
Other officials said some of the slums in the low-lying areas in the MNAC areas are not being cleaned regularly due to the congested lanes.
