Assam Youth Cong launches foot march from Dhemaji for land rights
In a bold move to champion land rights and protect indigenous identities, the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress has kicked off a week-long 'padayatra' beginning from Dhemaji.
Dibrugarh: In view of the ensuing state assembly elections, Assam Pradesh Youth Congress on Saturday launched a statewide ‘padayatra’ under the slogan “Jati Bosaok, Mati Bosaok” (Save Community, Save Land) from Dhemaji district.The drive aims to raise public awareness on land rights, constitutional values and protection of indigenous identity.The ‘padayatra,’ titled “Raijor Podulit, Raijor Congress” was launched with participation from senior Youth Congress leaders from both state and national levels. Indian Youth Congress (IYC) national in charge Manish Sharma, IYC national president Uday Bhanu Chib, IYC general secretary Mitendra Darshan Singh and Assam Pradesh Youth Congress president Zubair Anam attended the launch programme.“This ‘padayatra’ is about connecting directly with the people of Assam and understanding their concerns about land rights and identity. These are critical issues that affect the future of our indigenous communities,” Zubair said while addressing party workers at the launch.The multi-phase campaign will cover key districts across upper Assam over seven days, traversing through politically significant regions ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
According to the schedule released by the party, the ‘padayatra’ will be held in Lakhimpur on Jan 4, Majuli on Jan 5, Jorhat on Jan 6, Sivasagar on Jan 7, Dibrugarh on Jan 8, and will conclude at Tinsukia on Jan 9.During the campaign, Youth Congress leaders and workers will directly engage with the public on pressing issues, including land protection, safeguarding indigenous identity, unemployment and the protection of constitutional rights.Party leaders said the campaign will also focus on mobilising youth participation and encouraging dialogue on matters shaping Assam’s future.“We want young people to actively participate in discussions about their state’s future. Their voices matter, and this ‘padayatra’ is as much about listening as it is about conveying our message,” Zubair added.The Youth Congress initiative comes at a time when political parties are intensifying their outreach efforts ahead of the assembly elections.
