Guwahati: Assam Police on Saturday night arrested two individuals from Nalbari in connection with the murder of an elderly man in the district during a dacoity attempt last month. The individuals have been identified as Mrinmoy Bezbaruah, a resident of Niz Bahjani village, and Bhaskarjyoti Deka from Mohkuli village.According to Nilomoni Nath, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Belsor police station, the suspects were apprehended from their residents based on specific intelligence inputs and forensic results, which were gathered during the investigation.“After weeks of tracking and with the help of forensics results, we were able to catch them. Further investigation is underway,” said Nath. While preliminary findings suggest that both Bezbaruah and Deka were part of a gang involved in dacoity, efforts are on to identifying and arrest their accomplices. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to murder, criminal conspiracy and robbery. The two were produced before a local court on Sunday and were sent to police custody.
The incident took place last month in Nalbari’s Mohkuli village, when the accused allegedly barged into the home of one Pramod Barman and reportedly overpowered him and his wife, before tying them up and brutally attacking Barman, killing him in front of his wife. The dacoits then looted valuables from the house before fleeing.
