Patna: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), in its daily weather bulletin released on Sunday, predicted widespread rainfall, and also issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms across several districts of the state during this week till Sept 13.
Kumar Gaurav, an IMD official, explained that the rainfall is due to the trough line shifting southward toward Bihar. He added, “Moisture-laden winds from northwestern India are feeding into the eastern region, which will trigger thunderstorms and lightning across Bihar.”
Patna is expected to receive rainfall between Sept 9 and 13. On Sunday, heavy showers were reported in several northern districts including West and East Champaran, Gopalganj, and Siwan, driven by cyclonic circulations in the northern region. Around 15 districts experienced isolated rainfall, with West Champaran recording the highest at 90.2 mm.
From Monday, thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are likely in the northern and southwestern parts of the state. Districts such as Araria, Supaul, Kishanganj, Purnia, West and East Champaran, Gopalganj, Sitamarhi, and Katihar are expected to receive heavy rainfall.
