KRISHNAGIRI: A farmer set himself on fire at the Krishnagiri district collectorate on Monday as he was frustrated over the lack of action on the part of officials on his complaint on a land dispute.The farmer, identified as M Venkatesan, 46, of Matharsanapalli village near Shoolagiri, filed a petition with the Krishnagiri district collector's office in 2025 seeking a survey of 20 cents of his land.Naveen and Sidhan, sons of Thimmaiah, have allegedly usurped his piece of land. Their henchmen had allegedly assaulted him and threatened to kill him."Venkatesan filed another petition in the district collector's office on Monday. After filing the petition, he suddenly poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire" said an officer at the Krishnagiri taluk station. Police and firefighters on security duty immediately doused the blaze. Venkatesan was sent to Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance. Doctors said he had sustained 60% burn injuries.The Krishnagiri taluk police registered a case.
