Tamil Nadu: Security guard pulls up 4 men for smoking ganja, gets killed
CHENNAI: A college security guard was beaten to death by four youngsters after he tried to stop them from smoking marijuana behind the campus in Tiruvallur, on Monday night. Police said the gang of four was not studying in that college but used to hang out there at nights due to the availability of free wi-fi.
The deceased, S Subramani, 54, lived near the college. He was aware of a group that regularly visited an isolated area behind the campus to smoke marijuana. At times, they scaled the compound wall and came inside.
On Monday, one of the senior staff members residing on the campus heard a few people singing songs. He alerted Subramani to check the premises. Subramani, who was having his dinner at home, rushed to the college and confronted the men.
“Since two of the youngsters were his relatives, he decided to let them go with a warning. But they refused to budge. The group manhandled him. Later, all the youngsters left the spot except Naveen Kumar, 21, a relative of Subramani,” an officer said.
Naveen attacked Subramani and pushed him down. Subramani fell unconscious. Later, the staff found Subramani missing. They found him at the spot with head injuries. He was rushed to the nearby government hospital where he was declared dead.
