Duo kills elderly woman, steals her gold; one held

Chennai: Police arrested a youth in connection with a murder-for-gain case in Guduvanchery, and are searching for an absconding suspect. The victim, Saraswathi, 65, a resident of Nandeeswarar Nagar, was reported missing on April 29 by her nephew, Dileepan, 35, a private company employee from Singaperumal Koil.Following the complaint, police launched an investigation and examined CCTV footage, which revealed Vinoth Kumar, 35, who lived near Saraswathi's house, and his associate, Dileepan Chakravarthy, 27, of Kodaikanal, were involved in the crime. Based on mobile phone signals, police traced Dileepan Chakravarthy to Kodaikanal and arrested him. During interrogation, he confessed that he and Vinoth Kumar smothered Saraswathi to death by covering her nose and mouth and robbed her of seven sovereigns of gold jewellery. tnn
