Bathinda: Schoolchildren and co-passengers escaped injury on Monday when a storm-uprooted massive overhead gantry collapsed onto a highway in Punjab's Moga district, inches from their van.
Wind fury, heavy rain, and a hailstorm brought the large signboard down across the Barnala-Moga highway between Bilaspur and Lopo. The van travelling from Barnala came to a sudden halt after brushing against the fallen structure. Witnesses said the board had collapsed only minutes earlier.
"The driver braked hard to avoid a direct collision," said Sukhjit Singh, who arrived on the scene shortly after the van stopped. Badhni Kalan station house officer (SHO) Jaswinder Singh confirmed there were no fatalities or injuries. The debris was cleared shortly after the incident to restore traffic.
