Shimla cops arrest 2 drug suppliers from UP and Punjab
Shimla: The Shimla district police, under the special anti-drug campaign, have arrested two drug suppliers from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh after establishing backward linkages in separate drug cases.In a case registered at Rohru police station, the police recovered 190 banned nitrazepam tablets from two persons and later traced the supply chain to a Lucknow-based chemist shop operator, Ahmar Brijas, 32. He was subsequently arrested on May 17 for allegedly supplying restricted medicines without valid prescriptions.Action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act was also initiated against him, said the police.In another case registered at Sadar Shimla police station, police seized 10.30 grams of heroin from two Punjab residents. During the investigation, the supplier was identified as 22-year-old Akashdeep alias Akash, from Ferozepur district near the India-Pakistan border. Akashdeep was arrested from Jalalabad in Punjab on May 19, said the police.The Shimla police said so far this year, 39 accused individuals were arrested through backward linkage investigations -- nine times more than last year.
