Ambala: Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday targeted the Congress at a women's torch march in Ambala, accusing it of opposing the 33% reservation for women in legislatures.
Addressing a "Mahila Aakrosh Mashal Yatra" organised by the BJP's women's wing, Saini said the party would face the consequences of "disrespecting women" by opposing the Nari Shakti Vandan Amendment Act. He asserted that women would respond decisively in elections.
Praising PM Narendra Modi, Saini said the Centre was committed to implementing 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.
He accused the Congress and opposition bloc of trying to stall the Bill in Parliament and criticised their absence during Haryana's special session on the issue.
Highlighting the state govt's initiatives, the CM cited subsidised LPG cylinders and access to clean drinking water, and said welfare schemes were aimed at farmers, the poor, youth and women.
With Ambala civic polls approaching, he urged voters to support BJP candidates across wards for a decisive mandate.
The march passed through Kapda Market and Railway Road, with participants raising slogans and several party leaders in attendance.
