Chandigarh: The Punjab vigilance bureau has written to the Punjab Armed Police (PAP), seeking "information and necessary action" against O P Singh, the reader of the Punjab vigilance bureau chief director Sharad Satya Chauhan.
O P Singh, who is wanted by the
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a bribery case, is on the run. He is originally from the PAP and was on deputation with Chauhan.
The CBI has already arrested three private individuals, including a father-son duo, in the case.
A Punjab Police official said Rana was assigned PAP belt number 999. However, he was on deputation for the last "several years".
Reportedly, in a letter dated May 14, the Punjab vigilance bureau informed the commandant of the 13th PAP battalion that Rana was "absent from his duty" from 5 pm on May 11.
When contacted, Jatinder Singh Khaira, commandant of the 13th PAP battalion, confirmed that they had received a letter from the vigilance bureau.
"He (Rana) has a PAP number, but he has been posted outside (PAP) for a long time," said Khaira. The commandant added that Rana had been reported absent from duty and "when he reports back, action as per law will be taken".
In a late-night raid on the Punjab vigilance bureau headquarters in Mohali on May 11, the CBI arrested three people in the alleged Rs 20 lakh bribery case following a dramatic chase. However, the fourth accused in the case, Rana, remains at large.
