Chandigarh: Chandigarh may get a breather from the ongoing heatwave, with the IMD forecasting rain and thunderstorms from May 28 to 30.
The change is expected to ease humid conditions and pull down daytime temperatures over the next few days.
On Tuesday, the city recorded a maximum of 41.6°C, one degree above normal, and a minimum of 22.7°C, three degrees below normal.
The IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies with light rain and thunderstorms, mainly in the evening and night. The activity is linked to a western disturbance affecting north India, which could also bring gusty winds.
Day temperatures are likely to drop and hover between 34°C and 37°C over the next three to four days, while nights may turn slightly cooler.
The Met office has indicated light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Chandigarh and adjoining areas. Strong winds during storms are expected to offer temporary relief from the prevailing heat.
The expected showers may also improve air quality, which has been impacted by high temperatures and dust-laden winds in recent days.
