21 face FIR, suspension for skipping Census duty in Panchkula
Panchkula: Cracking down on dereliction of duty, the Panchkula administration has initiated action against 21 employees for allegedly skipping Census work, with FIRs and suspension proceedings set in motion.
At a review meeting held at the Mini Secretariat, Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma made it clear that absenteeism in Census operations would invite strict action, including criminal cases and suspension. “The exercise is being treated with utmost seriousness. Any negligence or obstruction will not be tolerated,” he said.
The Municipal Corporation, Panchkula, has submitted a list of 21 employees found absent from duty. Letters recommending their suspension will be sent to their respective departments. Police cases are also set to be registered against those who failed to report for Census work.
In a related action, a two-day show-cause notice has been issued to Deepak Sukhija, charge officer of Municipal Council, Kalka. Officials said if there is no visible improvement in the progress of Census work within the stipulated time, suspension proceedings will follow.
The DC underlined that the government aims to complete the Census in a transparent and time-bound manner and warned that accountability would be strictly enforced at all levels. He also urged residents to cooperate with enumerators and provide accurate information to ensure smooth completion of the exercise.
Earlier, Haryana chief secretary Anurag Rastogi and additional chief secretary (revenue) Dr Sumita Misra reviewed Census progress with deputy commissioners of all districts via video conference. Officials were directed to expedite work and take strict action against those failing to discharge their responsibilities.
Following the state-level review, the Panchkula administration convened its own meeting to tighten monitoring and ensure compliance with Census duties.
