Bathinda: Punjab anti-gangster task force (AGTF), in a joint operation with the Bathinda police, has arrested two persons and recovered two illegal country-made .32 bore pistols along with magazines and four live cartridges from their possession. This was stated by Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.
The arrested have been identified as Jacky Kumar alias Jacky and Vikas Arora, both residents of Bathinda. The latter has a criminal background, including involvement in a domestic violence case.
The DGP said the arrested accused were reportedly planning to rob a businessman in Bathinda. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the weapons were procured from Delhi, and further linkages are being verified, he said.
Deputy inspector general of police (DIG) AGTF Gurmit Chauhan said the AGTF Bathinda team had received a reliable input that suspects Jacky and Vikas Arora, who were planning to commit a robbery and were in possession of illegal weapons, were seen in Panchwati area of Bathinda. Acting swiftly, DSP AGTF Bathinda Range Jaspal Singh shared the inputs with the Bathinda police, he said.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Bathinda, Jyoti Yadav said in a joint operation, two individuals were seen approaching from GT Road, Bathinda. Upon noticing the police check post, they attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended by the police and on searching them, illegal weapons were recovered, she said.
In this regard, an FIR has been registered under the Arms Act at Kotwali Bathinda police station.
