College students begin 30-day internship with BMC

Bhubaneswar: As many as 85 students from arts, commerce and science streams of city-based Maharshi College, Ekamra College and BJB College began a 30-day internship at different departments of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday.The interns are Plus Three second-year students selected by their respective institutions.The BMC officials said the programme is designed as an exposure visit, providing the students with first-hand experience of municipal functioning while augmenting routine work across offices and field units.“They will work in the field as well as in office, lending a helping hand to officials in their daily routine work. Their working hours will be the same as those of the BMC employees,” a senior BMC official said.According to the officials, the students have been assigned roles aligned with their academic disciplines. The science-stream interns will be placed with engineering and waste management wings. Arts students will work in social welfare scheme implementation and community engagement initiatives, supporting in citizen interface tasks. Commerce students will be attached to accounts and finance-related sections, including revenue collection.The BMC officials said the interns will rotate through tasks under supervision.
