Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda police busted an organised interstate arms syndicate by arresting two suppliers, sourcing firearms from Bihar, in separate raids.
In Brajrajnagar, police arrested Adarsh Dubey alias Bittu (32) of Ganganagar. A search led to the seizure of one country-made 7.65 mm pistol, two single-shot country-made pistols and four rounds of live ammunition.
In a parallel raid under Orient police limits, Md Rafique Ansari (27) of Mahavirnagar was arrested. Police seized a country-made 7.6 mm pistol, a magazine loaded with four rounds, a motorcycle without registration number used for transportation, and an iPhone 11 Pro with a Jio SIM card from him.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Dubey and Ansari acted as key procurement agents, allegedly bringing illegal firearms from Bihar for local circulation. Police said both are habitual offenders involved in arms trafficking.
SP (Jharsuguda) G R Raghavendra said police will continue intensified action against organised criminal networks to ensure public safety under ‘Operation Netra’.
