Bhopal: Posing as a commando in an elite national counter-terrorism unit, a man raped a woman for one-and-a-half-years on the promise of marriage.
He allegedly even showed her fake ID cards and pictures with fake guns to gain her trust. Recently, when the accused started making excuses to avoid marrying her and started distancing himself, the woman found out that he was already married. He started threatening her that he would not allow her to marry anybody else and would share her intimate photos and videos with him online to defame her.
Acting on her complaint, police on Monday registered a case on charges of rape against the accused and are searching for him.
Cops said the two started chatting and in Sept 2024, the accused proposed to marry her. As the woman agreed, the man raped her. When she protested, he promised to marry her soon. He regularly visited her at her home where he had physical relations with her, promising marriage to take her consent.
He later threatened to defame her if she married someone else when the survivor confronted him about his marriage that he had hidden from her. Fed up with the harassment, the woman approached police and lodged a complaint against him. A further probe is on in the case.
