317 K’taka schools to be linked with nearby PM Shri ones
Bengaluru: Planning to extend the benefits of PM Shri scheme to a larger number of students, Karnataka's chool education department has decided to link 317 schools with 225 nearby PM Shri institutions. The state currently has nearly 585 PM Shri schools, many of which are primary and high schools with moderate student enrolment. Under the new plan, govt schools located within a 1-2 km radius of PM Shri schools will be brought under their administrative ambit, while continuing to function from their existing campuses.Officials said the UDISE+ codes of the 317 schools will be integrated with the neighbouring PM Shri schools. The institutions will be renamed as PM Shri Joint Government Primary School, High School or PU College. The department clarified that academic records of previous years available under the existing UDISE+ codes of non-PM Shri schools and PU colleges will remain intact. Midday meal services will also continue at the present campuses. The order further stated that if the PM Shri institution is a boys' or girls' school, facilities available under the scheme should be extended to students of both categories of schools linked to it. A separate order will be issued regarding the formation of governing councils for the PM Shri joint schools and colleges, on the lines of the governance structure followed in Karnataka Public Schools (KPS).The department said steps will be taken to appoint one First Division Assistant and one Group-D staff member in every PM Shri Samyukta School having more than 150 students.
