2 brothers among 6 drown in separate tragedies across 3 dists; 1 missing
Prayagraj: Six youths lost their lives by drowning, while a minor boy went missing in separate tragic incidents in Fatehpur, Prayagraj and Kaushambi districts on Sunday. Four others were rescued safely.
In Fatehpur district, four youths — Hasibuddin (20), Shahid (19), Ansh Prajapati (22), and Shan (20), all residents of Tapni village — drowned in the Rind river near Kunnu Ka Dera Majre in Khurma Nagar under the Lalauli police station limits on Sunday afternoon.
According to police officials, a group of six friends had gone to the river to enjoy a swim when tragedy struck, resulting in four of them drowning in the strong currents.
Police said all six youths were swept away after getting trapped in the strong currents of the river and began struggling to stay afloat. Local swimmers on boats managed to rescue two of them — Nizam and Monu. However, despite frantic efforts, the remaining four could not be saved, and their bodies were recovered after nearly two hours.
Tragedy struck Prayagraj when two brothers drowned in the Ganga river near Dandi village under the Nawabganj police station limits in the trans-Ganga area.
According to police, the incident occurred when the siblings — Mohd Kash (24) and Mohd Kaish (18), residents of Dandi — went for a swim and accidentally ventured into a deep-water zone. Before swimmers and bystanders could react, the younger brother began to struggle in the strong current. Seeing him in distress, the elder brother attempted to rescue him, but both were swept away by the river. A joint team of police, SDRF, and local swimmers later recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.
In Kaushambi, a 14-year-old boy, identified as Aman Nishad of Tara Ka Pura, was feared drowned at Mahila Ghat on Sunday afternoon, while two others — Umesh Nishad (15) and Pradeep Kumar (17) — were rescued by alert swimmers.
According to police, the three friends had gone to the Yamuna river for a swim when they were caught in the strong currents and began drowning. Swift action by local swimmers helped save Umesh and Pradeep, while search operations were still underway to trace Aman’s body.
