Ahmedabad: A city-based architect was robbed of Rs 4.6 lakh by two unidentified motorcycle-borne men who used a diversion tactic to steal a cash-filled bag from his BMW car in Ahmedabad's Sola area on Wednesday evening.
According to a complaint filed with Sola police, Jagrut Shah, 33, a resident of Bopal and owner of an architecture firm on Science City Road, had collected Rs 3 lakh from an angadia office near Blooming Campus around 5pm. He had also kept Rs 1.6 lakh that he already possessed in the same black bag, taking the total cash amount to Rs 4.6 lakh.
Police said Shah placed the bag on the front passenger seat of his car and was heading towards his office at The Capital building on Science City Road. Near Vedanta Hospital, a motorcycle rider wearing a helmet and face covering signalled him to stop, claiming there was an issue with the vehicle from behind.
As Shah parked the car and walked towards the biker, another unidentified man arrived on a separate motorcycle and smashed the front passenger-side window of the BMW before fleeing with the cash bag.
By the time Shah realized he had been duped and rushed back to the vehicle, both suspects had escaped from the spot. The accused also caused damage worth around Rs 16,000 to the luxury car.
Sola police have registered a case of theft and launched an investigation. Officers are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects and trace their escape route.
