Ahmedabad: A major fire broke out at a pharmaceutical warehouse near Jodhpur BRTS bus stand on Monday, destroying medicines and medical equipment and triggering an extensive firefighting operation. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
According to officers from the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services, the blaze erupted in units operated by Atlantis Pharma Pvt Ltd in Block C of the Saptadeep Goldcoin Building at Jodhpur Crossroads. The fire spread from the ground floor to the second floor of the commercial premises, generating dense smoke that engulfed the structure.
Four fire tenders from Prahladnagar and Bodakdev fire stations were rushed to the spot after the fire control room received an emergency call. Firefighters faced difficulty entering the premises due to heavy smoke inside the warehouse.
Officers said window panes had to be broken and a portion of the upper wall was dismantled to release smoke. Fire personnel continued ventilation work for several hours even after flames were brought under control.
A fire officer said employees and people present in the lower-floor pharmaceutical agency managed to evacuate safely before the fire intensified.
Civic officials said the building had been regularized under GRUDA-2011 in 2014. Authorities are now examining whether the warehouse complied with fire safety requirements applicable to commercial godowns.
