Commemorative coin on 75 years of Somnath Temple’s consecration to be issued today
Ahmedabad: Monday, May 11 will mark 75 years of the consecration of the reconstructed and restored Somnath Temple at Prabhas Patan. The ceremony was held in 1951 in the presence of India's first President Dr Rajendra Prasad. A commemorative Rs 75 coin will be released by PM Narendra Modi to mark the occassion, said numismatists. Sudhir Lunawat, a numismatist based in Gujarat, said that an official gazette notification for the same was issued on May 8."One side of the coin will depict Somnath Temple along with the text, ‘A celebration of 1000 years of India's unwavering faith and devotion' with 2026 as the year of issuance. The coin will be struct by the govt mint in Kolkata," he said.Lunaway added that the commemorative coin will be made available for collectors, devotees, and history enthusiasts through the Govt of India mint's official website.
