Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife thanks people of Assam as he takes oath as CM again
Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as Assam chief minister for a second consecutive term on Tuesday, following which his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma thanked the people of the state for their support and faith in his leadership.
Speaking to ANI, Riniki said, “This is the blessings of Maa Kamakhya and the people of Assam..They believe in the politics of development and welfare works carried out by Himanta Biswa Sarma.”
Riniki said the people of Assam had backed Sarma’s development-oriented governance and welfare initiatives, which she described as the reason behind his return to office for a second term.

TVK moves SC against Madras HC order barring MLA from floor test
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court against a Madras high court interim order restraining its MLA Srinivasa Sethupathi from participating in the Tamil Nadu Assembly confidence vote.
The petition was mentioned before a bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The matter is scheduled to be heard on May 13, ANI reported.
The plea was filed on behalf of the party led by Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay through advocates Dixita Gohil, Pranjal Agarwal, Rupali Samuel and Yash S Vijay.

LDF attacks Congress over delay in naming Kerala CM, alleges UDF ignoring mandate
The opposition Left Democratic Front on Tuesday criticised the Congress-led United Democratic Front over the delay in choosing Kerala’s next chief minister, alleging that the alliance was failing to respect the people’s mandate.
Addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, senior CPI(M) leader and LDF convenor T P Ramakrishnan said the Congress and the UDF should “respect the people’s verdict", news agency PTI reported.
“The people of the state had voted in favour of the UDF to form a government. The Congress and UDF have a moral responsibility to show justice towards them in turn,” he said after attending an LDF meeting.
Ramakrishnan alleged that administrative procedures usually associated with governance were already being carried out even before the new government had formally assumed office.
He claimed that transfers of government employees were being made based on lists prepared by organisational functionaries, and said such actions were not in line with democratic practices.
The CPI(M) leader also accused the UDF of beginning “anti-people measures” and referred to reports of a rise in rice prices through Supplyco outlets.

A man was detainedat the venue of the Assam government’s swearing-in ceremony after security personnel allegedly found a few rounds of live ammunition in his possession, police said.
According to officials, the bullets were discovered during a routine security check at the entrance of the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara. The individual was immediately taken into custody and shifted to Basistha police station for questioning.
A senior police officer clarified that no firearm was recovered from the man. “He has been detained for interrogation. We are investigating the circumstances under which the live rounds were found and whether there was any security threat,” the officer said, as quoted by PTI.
The incident occurred just minutes before Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya was scheduled to administer the oath of office to Himanta Biswa Sarma along with his new Council of Ministers.

The prime minister will be attending the oath taking ceremony of the NDA government, which will be helmed by Sarma for the second consecutive term.
He will be spending the night at the state guest house at Koinadhora in Khanapara area of the city.
Besides Sarma as the chief minister, four more MLAs -- two from the BJP and one each of its allies AGP and BPF -- will be taking oath.

Bengal government withdraws Abhishek Banerjee’s Z-plus security cover
The Suvendu Adhikari-led West Bengal government has withdrawn the Z-plus security cover provided to Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, marking a major rollback of security arrangements for the TMC leader after the change in regime. According to officials, the additional security personnel and pilot car facility allotted to Banerjee for over a decade will now be removed, with only the standard security cover entitled to an MP remaining in place.
The decision was reportedly taken after chief minister Suvendu Adhikari held meetings with top administrative and police officials at Nabanna, where issues related to security arrangements for politicians were discussed.
Adhikari questioned the need for extensive security deployments without a genuine threat perception and stressed that public money should not be spent to project political influence or status.

CPI(M) says Kerala LoP decision will be taken in state, not Delhi
CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan said the decision on appointing the leader of opposition in the Kerala assembly will be taken in Kerala, indicating that the matter was not discussed during the party’s Polit Bureau meeting in New Delhi.
“The decision about the leader of opposition will be taken in Kerala,” Govindan told reporters after the meeting. Asked about the possibility of appointing a deputy leader of opposition, he said that issue too would be decided by the state unit.
The remarks come amid reports that the CPI, the second-largest constituent of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), is staking claim to the deputy leader of opposition post. The Congress high command has begun reaching out to senior Kerala leaders, with several prominent figures being called to Delhi for consultations, party sources said on Wednesday. Tripura chief minister Manik Saha said the BJP’s recent electoral successes have created a wave of “positive energy” across the country, as party leaders prepare to attend Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati on May 12.
“This is a truly magnificent experience. Just two days ago, we attended the swearing-in ceremony in Bengal, and then on the 12th, we will attend the swearing-in ceremony here. The entire country is brimming with positive energy; everyone is happy,” Saha said.
Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the party’s momentum, Saha said the BJP’s victories in multiple states had generated enthusiasm among party workers and supporters. Referring to Tripura, he expressed confidence that the BJP would retain power in the 2028 Assembly elections as well.
