The assistant registrar at IIT, Kanpur ended his life by suicide at his official residence here on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as surjeet kumar Das, 40, was reportedly in depression. His family said his younger son, who is just one and a half-year old, had tested Covid positive and hence Surjeet’s depression had aggravated. Officials of Kalyanpur police station are investigating the case to ascertain the reason for his taking the extreme step.

Police arrested main accused in a blind murder case, who was at large. The accused has been identified as Gopal Singh, of Bihar. The victim has been identified as Mukesh Kumar, also from Bihar. Another accused, surjeet kumar of Balongi was arrested on September 22.

Members of the banned Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) late on Monday night set afire three tractors parked at a brick kiln site at Kanda Ghati under Nawa Bazaar police station in Palamu district, SP Chandan Kumar Sinha said on Tuesday. A group of about 40 armed members of TSPC forced their way to the kiln and took away several workers as hostages before they torched the tractors, Sinha added.
