Facing charges in a rape case, Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) chief and former MLA from Atam Nagar constituency Simarjit Singh Bains applied for bail in a local court on Tuesday.

Expressing concern over the decision taken by the Union government to terminate the appointment of members of Bhakra Beas Management Board, Lok Insaf Party president and legislator Simarjit Singh Bains said that the central government had treated Punjab in this manner even before.

A man in Mohali has been arrested on charges of selling counterfeit salt and tea. The man, Atul Gautam and Parkash Gautam, are the owners of a trading company that is allegedly selling the fake products under the name and style of Tata Salt and Tea. The police have also arrested Dhakoli sho inspector Simarjit Singh Shergill for registering the case. The three companies that have been accused of manufacturing and selling the fake products are Ramesh Dutt's company, Gautam Enterprises, and Peermuchalla area. During the investigation, the police found that large amounts of fake salt and tea were being sold. They also seized the products and arrested the accused. The case has been registered under Sections 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act.
