JALANDHAR: Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) MLA Simarjit Singh Bains has alleged that he and his MLA brother Balwinder Singh Bains were kept away from the all-party meeting on water crisis in Punjab as chief minister Amarinder Singh did not want all their information and perspective to shared there.
“The resolution passed on Friday amounts to giving rights to Union government to assess river water availability and distribution and it amounts to compromising the interests of the state,” he reiterated while addressing a press conference here on Friday.
Speaking in the same vein as Thursday, Bains said, “It seems the opposition leaders agreed with the CM due to his aura and they failed to point out the flaws in the approach of the Punjab government.” The record of the Union ministry of irrigation and power about a conference on January 29, 1955, where distribution of water from Punjab rivers was discussed, showed that it was clearly stated that question of cost of water would be taken up separately, he claimed.
The MLA also announced to stage a sit-in outside the official residence of Union water resources minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Delhi as Punjab had been kept out of Atal Bhujal Yojna despite facing serious ground water crisis.
