Addressing meetings in villages of Suryapet district as part of Raithu Rachabanda and Rythu Bharosa Yatra, which entered 15th day on Monday, Uttam said the Dharani portal is proving to be a bane rather than boon for the farmers.

Dharani, an Integrated Land Records Management System in Telangana, has become a contentious issue ahead of the assembly polls. The system, launched by the government in October 2020, aims to streamline land administration and provide a one-stop solution for registrations. However, opposition parties have accused the ruling party of using Dharani to "grab lands" and have vowed to abolish it if they come to power. The government, on the other hand, argues that Dharani eliminates middlemen and gives farmers control over their land.

The Dharani committee faces challenges in reconciling land records and ownership between various departments. It plans to suggest short-term solutions and meet with the revenue minister and the chief minister. The committee may also recommend the revival of village revenue staff.

The Telangana government’s prestigious Dharani web portal has completed 10 lakh transactions and the portal witnessed a recorded 5.17 crore hits in the past one year.

The Telangana government initiated a forensic audit of land transactions on the Dharani portal following allegations of illegal activity and data compromise. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy accused the previous government of outsourcing the portal to foreign private agencies, potentially jeopardizing landowner data. A new land record system managed by the National Informatics Centre will replace Dharani.

With thousands of grievances on Dharani land portal remaining unresolved and farmers making rounds to tahsildar and district collector offices, the Telangana government has decided to resolve all the issues.

CM K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday directed officials to make necessary modifications on Dharani portal in a week, providing a facility for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to register based on their passport number.

With farmers and property owners airing grievances - all related to Dharani portal - constantly, Justice K Lakshman of high court identified more than 20 common problems and gave a four-week deadline to the chief secretary and chief commissioner of land administration to come up with clear-cut solutions.

With no relief from the high court on registration of non-agriculture properties through Dharani web portal, Telangana government is mulling going back to the old system of property registrations, at least temporarily. This is expected to continue till the government gets court permission and the registration and stamps (R&S) department gears up for registrations through Dharani.

Telangana government said the Dharani land portal will bring transparency in maintaining digital records of private properties in the state and put an end to fraudulent means in the revenue and registration offices.
