Hyderabad: Stating that the state govt has been providing transparent services to the people through Bhu Bharati over the past one year, revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that nearly five crore people had visited the portal. He termed it not just an anniversary of a law, but the beginning of a new era in land rights protection in Telangana.
On Monday, he discussed the conditions before and after the implementation of the Bhu Bharati Act with revenue officials, ahead of the portal completing one year on Tuesday. He also recalled the challenges faced by the people of Telangana due to the Dharani portal before the introduction of this law.
"We are bringing the revenue system closer to the people by upholding the principles of transparency, accountability, and efficiency, thereby completely transforming the earlier situation. In this process, we introduced the historic Bhu Bharati Act, which has made land administration in the state transparent and straightforward," the minister said.
He further said that under the previous BRS govt's rule, the 2020 ROR Act and the Dharani portal, which were introduced without proper procedures, caused severe difficulties for millions of people in proving their land rights, even though the land belonged to them.
People were forced to run around offices to establish their claims.
He said the govt has integrated the revenue, survey, stamps & registration departments under one umbrella, in collaboration with the central govt agency National Informatics Centre (NIC) to develop the integrated Bhu Bharati portal. This was launched on a pilot basis on April 2 last year in five mandals across five districts. "The govt will assess the pros and cons encountered in these areas and make necessary changes before expanding it to one mandal per district next month. In these five mandals, the govt will also assign a Bhu Dhar number to every survey number. The aim is to provide a permanent solution to land disputes in the state," he said.
Observing the earlier situation, the Congress govt fulfilled its promise to abolish the Dharani portal immediately after coming to power. On April 14 last year, on the occasion of Dr BR Ambedkar's birth anniversary, the Bhu Bharati portal was launched by CM Revanth Reddy. "Bhu Bharati has become a powerful tool in ensuring land security to the farmers of Telangana. It has marked a significant step in reducing the need for common people to run around revenue offices by putting an end to land disputes," he said.
Over the past 12 months, the Bhu Bharati portal played a crucial role in resolving long-standing disputes. In the first year of its launch, over 52 million people visited the portal, and approximately 6.7 million users logged in, the minister said, and added that since April 14, 2025, as many as 3.80 lakh new passbooks have been issued.
