Mojang has officially kicked off the pre-release phase for Minecraft Java Edition 26.2, and the first pre-release has now been made available. You can now expect mostly bug fixes as the team prepares for the full release of the Chaos Cubed update.
One notable change in this build is that the Peer-to-Peer connection feature introduced in a recent snapshot has been removed. Mojang has stated that the experience was not what they wanted for all players and has determined that the feature is not ready for release in its current form.
The section below takes a detailed look at the Minecraft 26.2 pre-release 1 patch notes.
Minecraft 26.2 pre-release 1 patch notes
Here are the patch notes for the Minecraft 26.2 pre-release:
Sulfur Cube and Chaos Cubed Changes
Sulfur Cube- Small Sulfur Cubes now have an updated model and texture
- The Sulfur Cube now has unique hit and push sounds for each archetype - a significant audio overhaul that gives every block type its own distinct sonic identity
Sulfur Caves- Updated fog color in Sulfur Caves - Bedrock Edition will match this color in a later update
- Reduced the maximum growth length of Sulfur Spikes, addressing community feedback that caves were becoming overgrown
Potent Sulfur- The continuous Geyser setup now requires a source Lava block to erupt, tightening the conditions needed to trigger the mechanic
Sounds
- Updated hurt and death sounds for one of the chicken sound variants
- Small Sulfur Cubes now have sounds that play when being fed Slimeballs
UI
- The Friends List button is now always visible on the title screen, even if the feature is disabled in options
Server Properties
Two new server properties have been added, separating spam thresholds for chat and commands:
- chat-spam-threshold-seconds - controls the kick threshold for chat spam
- command-spam-threshold-seconds - controls the kick threshold for command spam
Both default to 10 seconds. Either can be set to 0 to disable kicks for that type of spam entirely.

- Fixed players being kicked for sending multiple commands quickly in multiplayer
- Fixed Sulfur Caves eventually becoming overgrown with Sulfur Spikes
- Fixed Small Sulfur Cubes not having their own texture
- Fixed a crash when an Evoker retaliated against a Vex that had itself listed as its owner
- Fixed items entering a player's inventory after death when keep_inventory was disabled
- Fixed Shulkers suffocating when opening while hanging from a block
