England fast bowler Josh Tongue etched his name in the record books at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Boxing Day, securing the first five-wicket haul by an England bowler in a 21st-century MCG Test. His fiery burst limited Australia to just two sessions on day one of the fourth Ashes match, fueling England's push for pride despite the series already slipping away. With the Ashes lost and no tour triumph Down Under since 2010/11, Tongue channeled raw fury and national pride into his bowling. England, winless in their last 18 Tests in Australia, donned the Three Lions determined to strike back—unlike predecessors Darren Gough and Dean Headley, whose MCG five-fors dated back to 1998.

Gus Atkinson opened the attack by dismissing Travis Head for 12, setting the tone. Tongue then tore through the middle order, snaring Jake Weatherald (10), Steve Smith (9), and Marnus Labuschagne (6) in a devastating spell. Australia lurched to 51/4 by drinks and 72/4 at the first interval. Tongue owned Smith, his third victim in three clashes, conceding only 35 runs off 69 balls (average 11.66), while twice ousting Labuschagne for a miserly 15 runs from 62 deliveries.
Post-lunch, Ben Stokes and Atkinson dragged Australia to 91/6, but Cameron Green (17 off 34, two fours) and Michael Neser (35 off 49, seven fours) countered with 52 runs. A sharp run-out ended that threat, paving the way for Tongue to mop up: Neser and Scott Boland fell to him as Australia crumbled to 152 all out in 45.2 overs. Usman Khawaja top-scored with 29 off 52 (two fours). It's just the third instance since 2000 of Australia folding inside 50 overs in a home Ashes Test—echoing their 98 in 42.5 overs here in 2010 and 132 in 45.2 overs at Perth earlier this series.
