Commonwealth Games 2022, Day 5 Highlights: India win historic gold in lawn bowls; Indian men's team retains table tennis gold
Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham Day 5: Indian lawn bowls team won a historic gold in Women's Fours event, before the men's table tennis team bagged India's fifth gold. Weightlifter Vikas Thakur and the badminton mixed team added a silver each to take India's tally to 13 medals -- 5 gold, 5 silver & 3 bronze.

India's leading squash player Saurav Ghosal will fight for the bronze medal after being outclassed by New Zealand's Paul Coll in the men's singles semifinals at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday. It was always going to be a difficult task for Ghosal to beat the Kiwi but the Indian surrendered meekly, going down 9-11, 4-11, 1-11 to the world number two and the last edition's silver medallist in one hour and 23 minutes.

The Indian women's hockey team failed to impress in its first real test of the Commonwealth Games, going down 1-3 to England in a Pool A match on Tuesday. England found an early goal after Giselle Ansley (3rd minute) got a deflection off a penalty corner into the Indian goal. Tess Howard made it 2-0 in the third quarter (40th), before Hannah Martin scored the team's third in the fourth and final quarter (53rd). With a few seconds to go for the final hooter, India scored a consolation goal through Vandana Katariya (60th), via a deflection off a penalty corner.
