Kangana Ranaut champions ‘Vocal for Local’ in classic Himachali coat and ivory saree
Where the world waits for controversial statements, debates, policies, and actions, we wait for Kangana Ranaut’s Parliament winter session looks. From a fashion perspective, the diva makes Parliament her runway and is all in motion to redefine the stage of political power dressing in India.
But she never appears without an agenda. Her ensembles always speak for her people, where with every outfit, she represents her state, culture, and region. In an era where celebrity wardrobes are driven by global luxury labels, she powerfully reinforces the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’, and with unmistakable elegance, she manages to steal the charm.
The actress-turned-politician once again nailed this aesthetic and chose tradition over the usual trend. She spotlighted India’s rich textile heritage, which equally exuded understated luxury and carried a political symbolism.
Ananya Panday’s vibrant Torani anarkali is what happens when tradition meets kaleidoscopic couture
She stepped out in an ivory-hued chiffon saree and teamed it with a vibrant multi-coloured overcoat, which immediately drew attention. She wore a full-length trench coat that was woven by women from her Mandi constituency, under the guidance of Kullvi Whims.
Time and again, Kangana has highlighted the work of local artisans from her region and has made her point. She completed the look with a subtle bindi and simple diamond drop earrings and picked a classic black luxury bag from her iconic collection.
But who are these Kullvi Whims?
Kullvi Whims is a women-led small association that preserves traditional wool spinning and weaving practices in the Kullu Valley. From jackets to trench coats, shawls, and more, their items are handcrafted, and they use indigenous wool sourced from the Gaddis, a Himalayan pastoral community. Each woven motif holds a meaning and story, which is related to the Pahadi culture, folklore, nature, and heritage.
Constantly voicing ‘Vocal for Local’, she has cited becoming a part of the Prime Minister's Atmanirbhar Bharat and has called it her inspiration. Encouraging her fans and Indian citizens to prioritise indigenous Indian crafts and products, she has always come in favour of artisans and local weavers.
Alia Bhatt’s all-white Farshi salwar moment is a masterclass in modern maharani dressing and is hard to ignore
Though her sartorial choices come intertwined with culture and politics, her motive to strengthen the livelihoods of these weavers and the national economy has always remained clear. Making statements and heads with one handwoven ensemble at a time, she inspires us by bringing her artisanal elegance to the Parliament.
