AIADMK's Usharani P wins, securing 87772 votes against TVK's Lakshmi Janarathanan J by a margin of 2189 votes.
Yercaud Assembly constituency is located in Salem district of Tamil Nadu and is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribe category. The constituency forms part of the Kallakurichi Lok Sabha constituency and has largely witnessed electoral contests between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIA
DMK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), reflecting the broader political pattern seen across the Salem region.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,60,157 electors, with 2,22,566 valid votes polled. AIADMK candidate Chitra G secured victory with 1,00,562 votes, defeating DMK candidate Tamilselvan C, who received 83,168 votes. The victory margin stood at 17,394 votes, giving the AIADMK a clear win in the constituency.
Earlier, in the 2011 Assembly elections, Yercaud had 2,10,158 electors, with 1,79,492 valid votes recorded.
AIADMK candidate Perumal C won the seat with 1,04,221 votes, defeating DMK candidate Tamilselvan C, who secured 66,639 votes. The winning margin of 37,582 votes reflected strong support for the AIADMK during that election cycle.
Historically, the constituency has alternated between the two major Dravidian parties. Tamilselvan C of the DMK won the seat in 2006, while AIADMK’s Elayakannu K T secured victory in 2001. Earlier elections, including 1996, 1991 and 1989, also saw alternating victories for DMK and AIADMK candidates, indicating that Yercaud’s electoral outcomes have often mirrored broader shifts in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
