All India NR Congress’s B Ravicoumar won from Villianur constituency in Puducherry, defeating Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s R Siva by a margin of 1,970 votes.
Villianur constituency saw a high-stakes arena for Puducherry's political heavyweights. The incumbent R Siva, the opposition leader representing the DMK (SPA), fought to defend his territory against B Ravicoumar of the AINRC (NDA). This established rivalry saw a new entrant, R Ramesh of the TVK, who challenged the traditional political order.
In the 2021 assembly elections, Siva secured a decisive victory by defeating AINRC's SV Sugumaran by a margin of 6,950 votes. In the 2016 assembly elections, A Namassivayam, contesting for the Congress, won the seat by 8,281 votes, following an earlier victory in 2011, when he secured the constituency by a margin of 1,541 votes, highlighting shifting political control over the years.
The constituency recorded strong voter participation in 2026, with voter turnout approximating to 90.27%, a much higher engagement than the last elections, where around 34,788 of the 40,792 registered electors cast their votes, reflecting a robust 85.28% turnout.
Villianur, a semi-urban constituency located in the central part of Puducherry, is known for its dense residential clusters, active local markets, and its role as a key administrative and transit hub.
The 2026 Puducherry assembly elections took place on April 9, recording a historic voter turnout of 91.23%, with results declared on May 4. The contest shifted from a traditional two-way battle into a high-stakes three-way contest between the ruling NDA (led by the AINRC and BJP), the SPA (anchored by the Congress and DMK), and the newly formed TVK–NMK alliance headed by actor-politician Vijay.
