TIRURANGADI: IUML’s P M A Sameer wins the seat in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections
Situated in Kerala's Malappuram district, the Tirurangadi Assembly constituency secures the 43rd position among the state's 140 legislative seats, playing a pivotal role in the Ponnani Lok Sabha area.
This general seat rallies over 200,000 voters from a predominantly Muslim populace, with turnouts hovering around 74per cent, encompassing Tirurangadi grama panchayat and neighboring rural expanses in north Kerala. It embodies IUML's steadfast supremacy under the UDF banner, fending off challenges in this vibrant electoral pocket.
In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, IUML's K.P.A. Majeed captured 73,499 votes at 49.74 per cent, prevailing over Independent Niyas Pulikkalakath's 63,921 votes (43.26 per cent) by a solid 9,578-vote margin from the full electorate.
The 2016 polls featured IUML's P.K. Abdu Rabb dominating with 62,927 votes (46.53 per cent), narrowly ahead of the same Independent rival's 56,884 votes (42.06 per cent) by about 6,043 votes among nearly 190,000 voters, showcasing IUML's resilience against independents and LDF.
Gearing toward 2026, Tirurangadi's lineage of IUML successes traces back through decades, anchored in community trust and agendas like education and livelihoods. As independents and LDF mount pressures alongside NDA outliers, this UDF stronghold's contests will ripple through Kerala's north coast political narrative.
