In a closely watched constituency in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate K. Kalaivanan Poondi K secured victory, defeating his nearest rival from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) by a margin of 18,148 votes.
Kalaivanan polled 75,260 votes, consolidating a comfortable lead as counting progressed. TVK candidate Veeramani V put up a notable challenge in his electoral debut but finished second with 36,387 votes, trailing significantly despite an energetic campaign.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s Poondi K. Kalaivanan won the seat with 1,08,906 votes, defeating AIADMK’s A. N. R. Paneerselvam, who secured 57,732 votes. The margin of victory was a massive 51,174 votes. In the 2016 Assembly elections, DMK leader M. Karunanidhi won the seat with 1,21,473 votes, defeating AIADMK’s A. N. R. Paneerselvam, who received 53,107 votes.
The margin of victory was 68,366 votes. In the 2011 Assembly elections, DMK’s M. Karunanidhi won the seat with 1,09,011 votes, defeating AIADMK’s M. Rajendran, who secured 58,762 votes. The margin of victory stood at 50,249 votes.
