It was a close contest between Patnam Narender Reddy of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Bantu Ramesh Kumar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Anumula Revanth Reddy of the Congress. Revanth Reddy, who was previously a two-time member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh, switched to the Congress in 2017.

Whereas, his strategic maneuvers and charismatic leadership seem to have paid off for the Congress party in the region. Reddy is contesting from two seats - his home constituency Kodangal and Kamareddy.
