Suri constituency assembly election results 2026: BJP’s Jagannath Chattopadhyay defeats TMC's Ujjal Chatterjee

NEW DELHI: In Suri, BJP’s Jagannath Chattopadhyay notched up an emphatic victory, polling 1,24,243 votes and defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Ujjal Chatterjee by a margin of 28,686 votes. Chattopadhyay stayed comfortably ahead throughout the counting, reflecting a strong mandate in his favour. Chatterjee secured 95,557 votes but remained a distant second in the contest.

Suri is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency.

At present, Bikash Roychoudhury of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Suri. He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 48.44% of the total votes polled. He was followed by Jagannath Chattopadhyay Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who received 45.09% of the votes.

In the recently held assembly polls, Trinamool and the BJP gave tickets to Ujjal Chatterjee and Chattopadhyay, respectively.

Earlier, the constituency was also won by AITC candidates in previous elections. Asok Kumar Chattopadhyay secured victory in 2016, while Swapan Kanti Ghosh won the seat in 2011.

The election history shows that Suri has remained under AITC’s control for multiple consecutive terms, reflecting consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
