NEW DELHI: Dhormeswar Konwar of the BJP emerged victorious in the election, securing a total of 74833 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Utpal Gogoi by a decisive margin of 24134 votes.BJP's Dharmeswar Konwar was in contest with Congress's Utpal Gogoi for the constituency of Sonari in the 2026 assembly elections.There were a total of 171855 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Sonari Assembly constituency, of whom 84602 were male, 87252 female and 1 belonged to the third gender.Exit polls released on Wednesday evening for the high-stakes Assam battle indicate a clear majority for the incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, with most pollsters favouring the BJP to secure a third consecutive term in the tea-producing state.

Sonari Assembly constituency is a general (unreserved) seat located in Charaideo district of Assam. It is one of the 10 Assembly segments under the Jorhat Parliamentary constituency. In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,78,790 registered voters, with 1,45,189 valid votes cast.Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dharmeswar Konwar won the seat with 69,690 votes. Congress candidate Sushil Kumar Suri finished second with 54,573 votes, losing by a margin of 15,117 votes. In the 2016 Assembly elections, Sonari had 1,51,738 electors, with 1,31,346 valid votes recorded. BJP candidate Topon Kumar Gogoi won the seat with 73,327 votes, defeating Congress candidate Sarat Barkataky, who secured 49,210 votes. The victory margin was 24,117 votes.
