ECR P Saravanan of TVK secured a landslide victory, polling 2,20,382 votes and defeating
DMK’s S. Aravind Ramesh by a massive margin of 96,780 votes.
AIADMK’s K.P. Kandan finished a distant third with 74,112 votes, as the contest resulted in an emphatic mandate for TVK.
The Shozhinganallur constituency was a battleground as the DMK re-nominated the incumbent S Aravind Ramesh, who sought a third consecutive term in the state's most populous constituency. He faced K. P. Kandan, a veteran AIADMK leader and former MLA (2011) who aimed to reclaim his former stronghold after finishing as the runner-up in the last two cycles. The new formidable entrant was P. Saravanamoorthy, representing the TVK.
The 2021 election saw S. Aravind Ramesh (DMK) retain his seat with 1,71,558 votes (44.18% vote share), defeating K. P. Kandan (AIADMK), who polled 1,36,153 votes. The victory margin was 35,405 votes. In the 2016 election, the seat was won by S. Aravind Ramesh (DMK), who polled 1,47,014 votes, defeating the AIADMK’s N. Sundaram by 14,913 votes.
The voter turnout this year was 80.4%, which is a major jump in comparison to 55.57% of the 2021 elections.
Shozhinganallur (Constituency No. 27), located in the southern outskirts of Chennai, is the largest Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu by electorate size. Landmarks like the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) IT Corridor, the ELCOT SEZ, and the rapidly growing residential hubs of Perungudi and Sholinganallur define its identity as the state's premier technology hub. A socially diverse and transient electorate, dominated by a high volume of first-generation urban professionals and migrant workers, makes it a critical barometer for infrastructure-led urban political sentiment.
The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle was primarily between the DMK-led alliance, including the INC and other parties, headed by MK Stalin and the AIADMK-led alliance, headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with the BJP and other parties. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking actor Vijay’s political debut as a third force across all 234 constituencies.
