NEW DELHI: In Sainthia, BJP’s Krishna Kanta Saha secured a comfortable victory, polling 1,15,054 votes and defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Nilabati Saha by a margin of 10,306 votes. He maintained a steady lead through the counting process, reflecting consistent support across the constituency. Nilabati Saha garnered 1,04,748 votes but finished second in the contest.
Sainthia is a Scheduled Caste assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. It is one of the seven assembly segments that fall under the Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency.
Nilabati Saha of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Sainthia.
She won the seat in the 2021 Assembly election by securing 49.84% of the total votes polled. She was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Piya Saha, who received 42.97% of the votes.
In the recently held assembly polls, Nilbrati Saha cotested for the Trinamool. On the other hand, the BJP fielded Krishna Kanta Saha.
Nilabati Saha has held the constituency for consecutive terms. She also won the seat in the 2016 assembly election as an AITC candidate. Earlier, the constituency was represented by Dhiren Bagdi of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), who won the seat in 2011.
The election history shows that Sainthia (SC) has seen shifts in political representation, reflecting competitive electoral dynamics and changing voter preferences in the constituency.
