NEW DELHI: In Rampurhat, BJP’s Dhruba Saha secured a commanding victory, polling 1,11,920 votes and defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Asish Banerjee by a margin of 24,233 votes. Saha maintained a strong lead throughout the counting process, reflecting a clear advantage in the constituency. Banerjee garnered 87,687 votes but finished a distant second in the contest.
Rampurhat is an assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. It is one of the seven Assembly segments that fall under the Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency.
Asish Banerjee of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Rampurhat.
He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 47.53% of the total votes polled. He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Subhasis Choudhury, who received 43.63% of the votes.
In the recently held assembly polls, Banerjee contested again, seeking a sixth consecutive term. He was challenged by Dhruba Saha of the BJP.
Asish Banerjee has held the constituency for multiple consecutive terms, having also won the seat in the 2016 and 2011 Assembly elections as an AITC candidate.
The election history shows that Rampurhat has remained under AITC’s control for several consecutive elections, reflecting consistent voter support for the party in the constituency.
